Earth Day offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy and care for the region’s beautiful natural areas and open spaces.

In honor of Earth Day 2024, SVT invites you to join us for a group outing or a volunteer work day, plus we have information about community events, scavenger hunts, and cellphone apps that can help you celebrate Earth Day wherever you are!

SVT 2024 Earth Day Scavenger Hunt
Enjoy a Scavenger Hunt

Take a group of youngsters on a nature scavenger hunt (whether in the back yard or on a forest trail), and they'll gain a better appreciation for the flowers, trees, and animals that surround us. Our simple scavenger hunt lists items in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Plus you can search the web for additional scavenger hunts in many languages. Download the SVT scavenger hunt.

Always Be Birding! Photo by Dany Pelletier
Nerd Out for Birds!

You can see stunning warblers along farm hedgerows or hear gulls in a mall parking lot. Just open your eyes—and your ears! If you are using binoculars, find the bird with your eyes first, and then raise the binoculars to your face. If you hear a birdsong you don't recognize, try using the free Merlin Sound ID app to identify the species.

Find Out About Frogs

Open your ears to the "peep-peep" of spring peepers," the "cluck-cluck'' of wood frogs, and the "tr-ii-ii-ill" of gray treefrogs. Learn to recognize the calls of all 10 Massachusetts species of frogs (and toads). Visit naturalistguides.com to learn their quirky and unique calls.

Visit the EarthDay.Org Website

EarthDay.Org recruits people from around the world to participate in the environmental movement.
