Volunteer Position Description
SVT completes annual inspections on each of our properties at least once every calendar year. The volunteer Property Monitor will check conservation area boundaries and review the land’s conservation values for multiple SVT properties throughout the year.
Position Responsibilities:
- Monitor boundaries and internal areas of at least one property per month throughout the year.
- Review reservation summaries to understand conservation values of each property.
- Check for general property conditions, hazard trees, and invasive insect damage.
- Note and photograph possible encroachments or violations.
- Use online log to prepare and submit annual inspection report to SVT.
- Maintain boundary signage (staff assistance provided as needed).
- Notify SVT personnel of urgent problems and situations.
Volunteer Qualifications:
- Ability to navigate in the field and off-trail with phone locator app (free download) and map and compass.
- Ability to walk up to several miles on uneven terrain and bushwhack.
- Understand the risks of poison ivy and ticks.
- Enjoyment of the outdoors and commitment to conservation.
Training/Orientation Provided:
Staff will train the volunteer in the protocol and skills needed, and will accompany the volunteer on at least one full boundary monitoring visit.
Time commitment (hours, dates, duration):
Minimum commitment of one property inspection (approximately 3 hours) per month, with the availability of a larger commitment if interested.
