Pollinator Meadow Volunteer, Wolbach Farm, Sudbury

Volunteer Position Description 

The Pollinator Meadow Volunteer will assist SVT's Stewardship Staff with the monitoring and maintenance of the pollinator meadow located next to our offices at Wolbach Farm. The Pollinator Meadow Volunteer will track insect-plant interactions, track flowering periods, and perform general stewardship tasks to ensure the meadow is able to support threatened, native pollinators.


Responsibilities:
  • Regularly visit the meadow to monitor its status and health.
  • Note and photograph flowering periods and insect interactions using iNaturalist.
  • Note pollinator-plant interaction using the Beecology web app.
  • Participate in stewardship activities such as invasive plant removal and planting.
  • Report any problems or needs of the meadow to SVT's Land Steward.

Volunteer Qualifications:
  • Have a smartphone or digital camera to record observations.
  • Ability to spend time standing, walking, and working in the outdoors.
  • Understand the risks of bees, poison ivy, and ticks. (SVT Staff should be notified of any bee or environmental allergies.)
  • Enthusiasm for native pollinators and the flora of Massachusetts.
  • Ability to identify plant and insect species--or have a willingness to learn.

Training/Orientation Provided:

Staff will train the volunteer in the protocol and skills needed. Resources will be provided about native pollinators and how to care for their habitats.


Time commitment (hours, dates, duration):

A minimum of 2 hours every two weeks, or 1 hour per week is preferred.
