Storybook Trail: We Wait for the Sun

The Storybook Trail at Wolbach Farm in Sudbury now features We Wait for the Sun, written by Katie McCabe and illustrated by Raissa Figueroa.

Based on a childhood memory of civil rights pioneer Dovey Johnson Roundtree, the story tells how young Dovey and her grandmother visited the woods on a dark, midsummer night to pick blackberries. At first, Dovey is frightened by the dark, but with her beloved grandmother Rachel by her side, the berry picking becomes an adventure. Eventually, the darkness of the night ends with the beauty of the sunrise.

Enjoy the story with your child as you walk through the woods! (The story is ideal for preschoolers and early readers.) A few pages of the book are posted on each of the 12 stations along the trail at Wolbach.

The trail goes over a hill in the woods and can be muddy or wet. Please wear proper footwear, and note that it's best to leave the stroller in the car.
