SVT Supports "Protect Nature" Rally
On Monday, December 1, Executive Director Davnet Conway represented SVT at a rally for the Protect Water and Nature Ballot Initiative at the Massachusetts State House. The rally celebrated the successful collection of more than 75,000 signatures in support of the initiative, enough to qualify it for the November 2026 statewide ballot. The signatures were turned into the Secretary of State later in the day.
Advocates for the initiative represent conservation groups from across Massachusetts, including Massachusetts Land Trust Coalition, Conservation Law Foundation, Appalachian Mountain Club, Mass Audubon, and Trust for Public Land.
The Protect Water and Nature Ballot Initiative would dedicate funds from the existing state sales tax on sporting goods to a "Nature for All" fund. It's estimated this would provide $100 million per year for clean water, healthy forests, more trails and parks, and access to the outdoors for everyone in the state.
