SVT is thrilled to add another property to our growing list of conserved lands: a 10.96-acre parcel in Berlin located just steps from the Forty Caves Conservation Area.

We purchased this land on April 17 from the Matthews Family, and now its important habitats will be protected forever. SVT will manage the property as part of Forty Caves, which includes lands owned and managed by SVT and the Towns of Berlin and Clinton.

Like Forty Caves, the Matthews Property features interesting rock formations and provides woodland habitat for forest-nesting birds and other wildlife. It is also part of the North Brook watershed with upland habitat that is critical to the survival of amphibians that rely on vernal pools for breeding.

"We're very pleased to have protected these priority habitats," said Tony Scibelli, SVT's Land Protection Specialist who managed the acquisition. "We are grateful to the Matthews Family for their commitment to conserving the land and helping to expand the impressive Forty Caves Conservation Area." Read more about the conservation effort.
