Scouts Improve Trails in Wayland

SVT is fortunate to receive support from Boy Scouts who work on our trails as part of their Eagle Projects. Over the years, Boy Scouts have made much-needed improvements to many of our trails while gaining valuable experience in planning and leading a multi-phase project.

The latest SVT properties to benefit from the efforts of Boy Scouts are two reservations in Wayland.

Ben Dugan and his crew of volunteers built two sets of boardwalks at SVT's Greenways Conservation Area on National Trails Day 2021 (June 5). Thomas Creavin built a new boardwalk at SVT's Hazel Brook Conservation Area on June 26. These new projects help hikers get through trails that had been very wet during rainy periods and will help lessen the impact of visitors on the trails.

Like many other youth leadership award projects, these Eagle Scout projects required more than just the final work on the trail. Ben and Thomas had to coordinate the design of their boardwalks, acquire permits, raise funds for materials, and recruit volunteers.

Thank you, Ben and Thomas!
