Lisa Vernegaard photographed this downy woodpecker at a birdhouse in Maynard. Lisa shares: "For the last several weeks, I've enjoyed watching a downy woodpecker settle into a birdhouse each evening. Woodpeckers don't typically nest in birdhouses, but they will use them for overnight lodging. This particular Downy seems to have found a room with a view and spends the hour around sunset observing the comings and goings of others in the neighborhood."
