Laurel Ridge Conserved!
The 20.5-acre Laurel Ridge property that helps to protect the pristine water of Whitehall Reservoir is permanently conserved!
In mid-October, SVT purchased a conservation restriction (CR) on this privately owned land that is situated on a peninsula that extends into Whitehall Reservoir in Hopkinton. The Laurel Ridge property features diverse wildlife habitats, stunning water views, and a wonderful trail network that connects to trails in Whitehall State Park.
SVT has been working to protect this land since September 2024, when the landowners offered to sell us the CR at a bargain price. We were delighted to accept the offer and add another piece to an extensive conservation corridor that includes Upton State Forest, Hopkinton State Park, Whitehall State Park, Whitehall Conservation Area, Cameron Woods Conservation Area, and SVT’s Whitehall Woods.
The CR also permanently guarantees public access to the trails that cross this land, and the property will continue to be open to the public for hiking, birdwatching, and fishing.
Thank you to those who contributed to our crowdfunding campaign for the Laurel Ridge CR, to the William P. Wharton Trust and the Fields Pond Foundation for their $15,000 grants, and to an anonymous funding source that contributed $80,000 to the project.
SVT also thanks the Family of George and Doris Meyers for its financial support of this project.
