Green Glam at the Emerald Forest Gala
On Saturday, March 16, more than 200 supporters of SVT gathered together for the Emerald Forest Gala to contribute funds for our conservation efforts. The "green glam" dress code inspired many guests to sport green and glittery attire and created a festive atmosphere for the event.
In addition to socializing, dining, and dancing, our guests enjoyed a wonderful program that featured welcoming remarks from Executive Director Lindsey Ketchel as well as a film in which long-time SVT staff members Laura Mattei and Dan Stimson described their love of nature and the importance of SVT's conservation work.
The highlight of the evening was a presentation from Amara Ifeji, an internationally awarded nonprofit leader in climate and environmental justice. Amara described her outreach efforts with the Maine Environmental Education Association, where she leverages grassroots advocacy to advance state and federal policy solutions. As the lead coordinator for Maine's first Climate Education Summit, Amara mobilized a youth-led movement that spearheaded Maine's $2+ million climate education program.
Amara, who is pursuing a degree in political science from Northeastern University, concluded her remarks by stressing the importance of making sure all people feel welcome in nature and are represented by conservation organizations.
If you were unable to attend the gala, we invite you to read the text of Amara's inspired speech.
After Amara's remarks, Lindsey returned to the podium along with the evening's emcee, Darryl C. Murphy, to lead a fund-a-need paddle raise that netted thousands of dollars for SVT's conservation work.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the festivities--we are already looking forward to next year's gathering!
