Grant Assists Effort to Identify Conservation Priorities
SVT has received a $10,000 Land and Climate Grant to help produce and share an updated regional conservation prioritization plan that addresses climate change variabilities. The grant, from the Land Trust Alliance and the Open Space Institute, will also provide technical assistance valued at $7,000.
The combined grant and technical assistance will apply towards SVT's and the Metrowest Conservation Alliance's work to identify areas within the 36 communities of the Sudbury-Assabet-Concord Rivers region that are in greatest need of protection.
By identifying priorities for protection, SVT and our partners are better able to work with landowners and local decision-makers to conserve critical natural areas. The knowledge helps us employ measures to protect habitat, prevent flooding, and mitigate against exptreme heat. The updated maps will also address environmental justice needs, to reflect those communities that have been underserved by conservation, and may also be the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
