Expanding Forty Caves

SVT is working to protect an 11-acre property located just a few yards from the southern edge of Forty Caves Conservation Area in Berlin. The property, currently owned by the Matthews Family, features a mature forest of oak, maple, and pine, and it includes a small area of important wetlands.

Forty Caves is renowned for remarkable rock formations and important wildlife habitats. SVT and the Towns of Berlin and Clinton own the lands in this conservation area, and together we manage the habitats and the trails.

The Matthews Family has offered to sell their land to SVT, and we are delighted by this chance to protect more of the habitats in this region. We are currently seeking grant funding to support the purchase, which we hope to conclude later this spring.
