Building a Better Bridge

A collaborative effort of SVT and the Carlisle Trails Committee has improved the trail at our Elliott Concord River Preserve. Working together, we replaced an old bridge that sat within the banks of a stream at this property that overlooks the Concord River, not far upstream from the canoe put-in at the Route 225 bridge on the Carlisle-Bedford town line.

The new bridge, which is longer and higher than its predecessor, sits above the stream banks and extends further away from them. This keeps foot traffic off the banks and provides added protection to the stream, which flows into the Concord River.
