Conserving Westborough Land
SVT and the Town of Westborough have a chance to conserve 34 acres of open meadow, forest, and wetlands along Bowman Street on the Westborough-Upton town line. Known as the Ellis-Walker Property, this land sits near the Upton Town Forest and is part of an extensive corridor of open space that provides habitat for wildlife, protects important water resources, and features hiking trails for area residents.
The Town has an opportunity to purchase the land and, with SVT's assistance, has applied for grant funding to offset much of the purchase price. If the Town succeeds, it will grant a conservation restriction (CR) on the land to SVT so we can ensure its ecological features remain permanently protected.
Good News! Westborough residents approved the purchase of the Ellis-Walker land during their Annual Town Meeting on March 23, 2024.
In advance of that meeting, the Town held a public information session about the Ellis-Walker project on February 27 and has also posted more information on the web page of its Open Space Preservation Committee.
