Volunteer Position Description
SVT Preserve Stewards are SVT's eyes and ears on our conservation lands. Preserve Stewards regularly walk the trails at an assigned property and make note of any problems with trail passage, vandalism, illegal uses, etc.

Description |
Walk trails and look for and note problems with trail passage, vandalism, illegal uses, etc. Inform staff through visitation reports when trail mowing is needed. Perform basic trail maintenance such as cutting back brush and tree limbs, especially along the boardwalks near the north field and along the trail easement at 360 Cedar Hill St. Maintain trailhead and hilltop kiosk postings. Restock map brochures monthly at the kiosk. Maintain trail signage (staff assistance provided as needed). Remove trash and debris. Check condition of deer exclosure monthly. Monitor property boundaries annually during spring or fall. Check for encroachments. Notify SVT personnel of urgent problems and situations. Submit visitation reports on the SVT web site’s stewardship volunteer log. |
Skills needed |
Willing to “adopt” an SVT conservation land close to your home or place of employment and gain a thorough knowledge and appreciation of the conservation land. Able to visit property bi-weekly throughout the year. Physically able to do walk extensively and perform some manual labor. Enjoyment of the outdoors and commitment to conservation. |
Training provided |
An individual orientation and training will be provided to introduce the volunteer to the property and describe the position's responsibilities. |

Approximately 4 – 10 hours per month. Can be flexible to your schedule. |
