As part of our multi-year effort to restore native plant communities at Gowing's Swamp in Concord, SVT recently contracted with Land Stewardship Inc. to apply herbicides to Asian bittersweet, porcelain berry, and glossy buckthorn. When it is necessary for us to apply herbicides, we always keep the amount and frequency of herbicides used to the absolute minimum necessary to achieve restoration goals.
In the past few years, our restoration effort at Gowing's Swamp (which is also known as Thoreau's Bog) has shown signs of success. We have previously converted a field of Japanese knotweed into native wildflowers, and we have also opened up views to the rare bog community.
