To celebrate the year of Henry David Thoreau’s Bicentennial, visit Gowing’s Swamp, a rare bog in Concord that was beloved and deeply observed by the author. Local naturalist, Cherrie Corey will begin with an introduction to the landscape’s ecology and history. Along the trail, she will share highlights of the topography and its wild inhabitants and interpret the bog from several vantage points, including little-known vistas of ”Thoreau’s Bog,” the open sphagnum mat within the larger bog where Thoreau focused his studies.  (Photo by Cherrie Corey)
